Hi, I would like to explore Wast Water and the Lake District. Can anyone recommend a nice site, I don't mind if it is a CL, CC Site or non CC. I just want a lovelly site where me, wife and kids can explore this beautiful part of the world. Many thanks

Hi

We stayed at the C&CC site at Keswick which is right on the shores of Derwent Water, at the foot of the Catbells....

Beautiful. Good site too (though a bit boggy on the grass when it's rained!).

I'm sure there are sites nearer to Wast Water - but Keswick is near enough and you gain the convenience of being able to pop into town (5 minute walk), shop in Booths (like a cross between M&S and Waitrose) and spend all your savings in George Fisher's!

Highly recommended.

Hi Scott, We were up in this area only last month and as you say it is a beautiful part of the world, we stayed at the camping and caravanning club site at Ravenglass and can definitely recommend it, from here you can explore both the cumbrian coast and the likes of the stunning waste water.

We have also stayed at the Caravan Club site at coniston, Park coppice, and can also recommend this site not so much for the site itself but for its location within walking distance of Coniston village and its proximity to the lake.

Hope this helps

The Ravenglass Camping and Caravan Site is probalbly the best placed site for exploring Wast Water - I assume you do a bit of fell walking. Wast Water is on the western edge of the lakes and can only be accessed fron the A595. The road to Wasdale Head is a dead end. To explore the rest of the lakes you either use the Hardnkott and Wrynose passes - DO NOT TAKE THE VAN THIS WAY or cut south on the A595 and cut towards Coniston on the A593. With respect Mark Mac - it is a canny journey from Keswick to Wast Water.

Ravenglass is the home of the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. the station and depot literally only 5 minutes walk from the site. The village had only one small shop and two pubs when we were there May 2006.

We thought the site was great and are looking forward to taking our grandson in the near future to see the trains. It is one of the C&CC new franchised sites and it was immaculate.
