Hello all , At the moment I am 100 metres away in my home from ARMED SIEGE , with seven police cars ,two fire tenders and at least one ambulance . This has been so since 9 am yesterday when somebody broke into a house with a samurai sword and apparently took hostages then let them go . So it seems this person is barricaded in someone elses home and threatening to harm himself . You can guess what I think with him wasting all these resources when other people desperately require them . A ambulance stood manned with specialist equipment and paramedics for 36 hours waiting for a samurai warrior to decide if he requires attention , I know what attention I would give him . Still the ITV cameras are there so I may find out more on Calendar news . --- STEVE .

They (the police) should be more considerate, after all the house belongs to some poor person. They should above all think of the money this family have probably spent in furnishing their home and with the stand off it puts pressure on the criminal to use the sword on himself. Think of the mess and blood stains are hard to remove. Would you do me a favour please Steve and go and ask the police if they could pass him some rope, far cleaner.

p.s. it will also save tax payers money by not having to pay for his legal fees and keeping him in jail.

Hi rosies

This is common practice now, the hostages have been released so the services just hang around and wait. From a FS perspective, if the person did something which would require our service immediately, like starting a fire, etc they we would intervene with the Police as back up. In most of these cases, the person simply decides to leave the premises and is dealt with when he/she gets outside.

I can't speak for the Police or Ambulance Service.

The ambulance stays there at the request of either the police or fire service.

Hello all , Well at last it came to an end last night about 8 pm without incident , he gave himself up after the police smashed all the house windows , presumably to frighten and humiliate him . I feel so sorry for the 12 residents living close to the scene who after being ejected from their homes on short notice having to spend a night elsewhere and most of the following day . Aswell as the roads gas and electric being turned off to all residents . The man , hearsay has it that he was the female hostages husband , is now in police custody . I just wonder how many thousands of pounds it has cost and who actaully pays ? --- STEVE .

Hi Steve

I'm really surprised the police smashed all the windows. Very strange.
