I am taking my first trip away this season next week. Does anyone have an alternative for cleaning my wastemaster instead of the recommended cleaning fluid? Same question for my Aquaroll. Thanks.
Hi Andy, We use Tesco Sterilising Solution for both of our Aquaroll and wastemaster, First we use half a cup of sterilising with water fill both and leave for half hour and then rince out well, never had any problem, hope this help!
Hi, same here and it is chaeper than Milton. Make sure you rinse everything thouroughly as it can leave a taste which invariably comes through in your first cup of tea!
Same here for the Aqua roll but for the wastemaster I always pop a good slug of the cheepest disinfectant I can find, after it has been emptied, give it a good shake then when you next use it, smells great!
I use Chempro, its used for sterilizing brewing equipment as it leaves no taste and does not affect metal, any residue disappers after 12 hrs it is also safe on the plastic pipes.
Unfortunatley it is hard to find these days I think they may have stopped making it, there are similar products on the market for sterilising drewing equipment.
Just arrived back from the Festival at Fakenham and see there are at least two questions about chemicals.
Please look at www.kemdirect.com as this is the latest in chemicals devised by a Dutch man who used to work for Thetford and now has gone on his own and he has produced a full range of products and there are `only three`. This is because each one preplaces at least two products.
For your wastemaster and Aquaroll infact for anything that uses water (drinking tank, pipes etc) you can use his Descaler / Pipe Cleaner.
This is better than Milton as it does not leave a taste more biodegradable than other products and will get rid of all bacteria and germs smells as well as any scale.
We have not found any other product that is as good.We even have a dealer using it for his babies bottles it is so safe.
It will not damage seals, washers etc You can even use it in the home as a pure descaler in kettles, showers etc.
This gives you another option as it looks as if lots of caravanners use different things.
Had a look at the Kemdirect stuff and the descaler is Citric acid which will clean but it won't sterilise on its own. To sterilise your water system your still going to require a Milton or Homebrew steriliser product. Chempro is no longer available unless its old stocks but there are other similar products readily available.
When you use a product like Kemdirect it removes both the scale (the calcium deposit) and the bacteria and germs in the water and so gets your water system as clean as you can.
When using a product like Milton you will only remove the bacteria and germs in the water, you will not remove the scale as it is not a descaler. Therefore it does not clean as effectively as at least 40% of the bacteria live in the scale.
It is almost impossible to get complete sterilisation as you require specialised chemicals provided usually by proffessionals. Products such as Milton do not sterialise they only clean the water.
Therefore kemdirect it better than the products which just clean the system as it also removes all the calcium deposits.
