watching the telly

Hi , bieng quite new to caravaning and with a lot to learn weve never really got involved much with power ariels - moveable sky dishes etc, and normally just shove a video of pre taped kids programmes into the video for them to watch come bed time .

But now were becoming more profesional ( we can put the awning up in less than a day now ha ha ) I,m thinking about attempting to get a clear picture and watch live stuff rather than taped .

We have 92 ADRIA OPTIMA with absolutely no telly related fittings fitted as standard ( as far as I,m aware )

We use a normal portable with its own built in DVD, that we conect via scart leads to an old VCR , as I said earlier this works fine and we just tape a selection of the weeks telly before we go or stick in a DVD film , but if we where to try for a pic what could we expect - require - need ??????????

am Quite happy to stay with wot weve got if its gonna take a lot of cash or degree in media engineering , not too keen on drilling holes in van either , but dont mind the odd open window / skylight.

Hi, im new to this too, our last 2 trips were without a tv but there is only so much evening radio you can listen to so we have invested in a tv for the van that has integrated digital and dvd. I have been reading the following site which i have found enormously helpful although I have yet to put into practice what i have learned...... That comes next week !

I meant to ask, does your van have an aerial on its roof, cos if it does, i would imagine there's an aerial socket inside somewhere. If not, i think you have to either buy one of those that looks like a flying saucer and have it wired in or buy an ordinary aerial and (somehow) attach it with a pole to the van, (the A frame seems to be the favourite place) but im sure you will get replies from the loads of people on here who are experts.lol

Nope nothing ariel related fitted , was only after the bog standard 5 channels but we have a spare set top digi box lying around at home doing nowt , will have to swat up by surfing previous posts .

Tend to go to places like , Lakes - dales - scarbrough - borders , not dared cross the north south divide yet.

We also spend a lot of weekends in the lakes and are mostly surrounded by trees. I now use a satellite system where possible.

However, I did(and still occasionally) use a IMAGE aerial on a mast attached to the jockey wheel. We always get a picture although not always 5 perfect channels.

As far as setting up goes I look to see which way everyone else's was facing, re-scan tv channels then just finely adjust till the best picture is achieved.

You can buy the aerials, mast and clamps etc on eBay.

Here is a nice cheap solution for you go to Argos buy a cheap domestic aerial some coax cable from DIY shed a couple of coax plugs and away you go ,put aerial cable thro window

If you have a spare digi box you will sure to have a small lead with the plugs on for digi to tele connection.

Most caravan accessory shops sell clamps to attatch your aeriel pole (some old awning pole would do the trick) to your jockey wheel, hitch or awning channel.

If you are on a CL or Cs and there are no other caravans with aeriels just have a look at which way the aeriels on any nearby houses are facing.

As Sir Rog suggests, Argos or Wilkinson sell cheap domestic tv aeriels.

C , you mention you have an old digi box at home. You need to make sure its a FREEVIEW box not a Sky or Freesat box as these 2 require a Satelite dish and wont work of an normal aerial.

I have some bad news and I have some good news.

The bad news is that the viagra was part of a consignment being shipped in a container across the Atlantic from America.

This awful weather that we're having is the edge of a very severe storm in the middle of the Atlantic in which the ship carrying our viagra lost some of it's deck cargo overboard. I'm sorry to tell you that our container was lost in the middle of the Atlantic and has sunk to the sea bed.

The good news?

Oh yes Sir Roger, I nearly forgot

Two hours after the viagra container sank the Titanic came up.

I'm fine thanks, hope you and Mrs emmerson are ok. I've been looking for the awning tie down kit but can't find it. Think we might need it for August. I can't believe we're almost in the middle of July. We haven't even put the pool out this year for the dogs.
