Water connection

Hi all,

Looking for some advice if anyone can help. I have a Senator with on board water pump and am experiencing a problem with the external water connection from the aquaroll to the van. It's the type with the filter that drops inside the aquaroll with a piece of hose leading to a square shaped fitting that plugs into the outside of the van. Once plugged in you close the flap over and that holds the water fitting firmly in place. I find it plugs in easy enough but is very difficult to remove. It is quite hard to get a firm grip of it and I find the only way I can remove it is to pull square fitting with one hand and the hose with the other. I am sure that one day I am going to end up pulling the hose off altogether. I have tried smearing the rubber "O" ring with vegetable oil prior to connection but makes no difference.

Anyone else experience the same problem or any ideas.

As I was writing this I was wondering if I switched off the water pump at main switch and opened a tap would that perhaps release the pressure and suction in the system and make removal easier?

Hi Rob

I assume from your decription that you have a Whale system. Have you checked the O ring seals carefully? Thay have quite a narrow cross section, and don't in my experience last very long, so I always keep some spares. I think sometimes one of them can become displaced as the block is fitted making removal difficult. I agree that the block is tight to remove but wiggle it from side to side slighlty as you pull

I had a similar problem with the Whale pump on my Bailey.

Veg Oil, Vaseline and new 'O' rings still did not seem to sort the problem.

Now with a new van (Swift and a Whale Aquasmart with onboard pump), I have no problem (yet). The connection slips in and out very easlily. Long may it last.

Rob,

Had the same problem with my Indiana, the trick is to lift up the flap, you know what i mean, 'cause thats what "locks" the connection. Now its easy peasy!

I had the opposite, mine is not too tight so I decided to replace the 2 O rings today, from my dealer I could only buy a kit (£5) which is common to the older versions which had an electrical connection to the external pump. The O rings are OK (but would prefer to buy them on their own) but from the instructions I couldn't work out if the inboard pump connector version has non return valves fitted. Any one know?
I should have removed the 4 screws inside the connector (external to the van) and had a look but I was at my storage site and we are doing away with it this weekend and I didn't want to push my luck so a more detailed check is postponed.
