Water Filling Tube

Hi,

At Maethop Fell CC site the drinking water fill taps all had quick fit connectors which was graet as it saved the normal problem of the push in rubber connector that leaks and blows off if you open the tap up to full flow.

I am away to Wales soon toa CL so do not expect quick fix connectors. I recall someone had a tube arrangement that used two different diameters of white rigid poly tube. I hav efound some 40mm and 32mm in the shed. Wouls welcome it if anyone can give me the best lengths to cut the tubes and details of teh conenctor-seal that they used to slide them together.

Cheers

Guessing (but it might help)

Cut the 40mm pipe down to just a little longer than the depth of the water holder.

Slip the smaller pipe into it allowing about an extra 1/3 of lenght.

2 holes near the top of the smaller pipe threaded with a string loop could just hang over the tap head.

No need for a seal between the 2 that I can see

Why do you need 2 pieces of tubing? I have one piece of 32mm tube approx 75cm long that drops into my water barrel and is then lifted up onto the tap. Ok you have to hold it onto the tap, or tie it on as has been suggested, but this a simple and quick way to fill our water barrels. I have been using this sytem for 2 years now - not my idea I have to add, saw it in a CC site. The grandchildren love this arrangement, no more struggling with the conventional plastic filler pipe.

I use two pieces of rigid plastic pipe from an old vacuum cleaner (suitably cleaned!), they are about two feet long and one connects inside the other allowing me two different lengths.

A bicycle pedal toe strap with a quick release buckle fitted to the end of one pipe connects over the tap.

Hi Vernon

Toe straps are really versatile

We used to use them instead of trouser clips when I was into cycling in an obsessive sort of way !!(NCU)

I use them a lot for various things including holding down those annoying water saving spring loaded taps.

I use the blue hose with rubber push on cap on one end a quick fit connector on the other myself but my friend just uses the large bore grey waste pipe which is more bendy and gives some flexibility with different height taps without the need for 2 tubes.

It has the same elastic loop to hang it round the tap

Hi Guys,

thansk for the info. I also found a PC freebie called '200 top tips', and in that the sizing for the water pipes was described. It seems 55cm each and no seal is the answer.

Thanks

Like the others I use just one piece of pipe and also use on of those elastic toggle things of an old fleece for quick and easy fitting to the tap.

With all the daft gadgets you can buy at caravan shops, isn't it amazing that you can't get a water filler that works properly !

I never used to have this problem, I'm not sure why they changed the pipe connectors.

Or is it the taps ?
