Water filter

Hello,

I've just bought my first caravan - an Elddis Crown Sceptre built in 1996.

I'm confused about something (many things actually, but I'll get there): how does the water filter work? I can see the flap and there is a blue pipe/pump to connect to the water barrel. I'm just confused as to how the filter fits into the scheme of things. Anybody like to explain with an idiot's guide for me?

Thanks!

im not sure of the van but with our filter where the pipe runs into the van from the submersible pump just under it theres a circle shape, with ours you just unscrew that and replace it with a new one before each season :)

Hi Paul as Danny states it depends on the model of the filter and type to give a full explanation.

However as a general rule of thumb the water is pumped up from the aqua roll via the blue pipe with a submesible water pump on the end. The water enters the filter housing and passes through a water filter before travelling along the pipes to the tap.

The filter is essentially designed to remove any large particles from the water to save blocking the pipes, it does not sterilise the water.

The filter depending on use should be changed aprox every 35-40 days of use.

Hope this helps but please post a better description of the type of pump you have if you require further details

Cheers

Thanks both of you - John's explanation is what I was after. I won't know the exact make and model of the pump/filter until I get my hands on the caravan properly at the weekend. I just couldn't picture how it worked.

Hi Paul there is a possibility it may not have a filter at all. Neither of my previous 2vans had one (dart and an abbey) however my new coachman does. The filter is normally a charcoal based product which as previously stated should be changed at least once a year. One other tip, always remove the filter prior to sanitising the system.

I did have a van with filter out side but my Swift seems to have it fitted in line under the front seat,I have never changed it but it was serviced a couple of weeks ago.

Hi Paul

I have a Crown Sovereign which i had from new in 1999 the filter that is on that model is a blue flat one that clips in just above the pump inlet. Have you got 2 little holes above the pump inlet that were the filter plugs in You may have a job getting one try your caravan dealer.

Hope this helps

hi robert

yes they can by fitting one of the filter housings that contain a filtre or by fitting a "in line type" into the water system.

however seeing as how site water supplies are of the main water type why bother you dont have one at home do you??

if you are really bothered by the thought of some foriegn object or insect getting into the water via the water hog a simple answer is to fit one of the sponge type filtres over the submersable pump " the type used by fish keepers" for example

Hi Paul

Our previous caravan had an inline filter under the kitchen sink area.

As the 'van is new to you definitely change the filter if one exists.

As a matter of course thoroughly clean all the pipes with Milton solution , diluted as per instructions. Some will tell you not to fill the water heater but imo as long as the solution is rinsed through within say 15 minutes I've never had any problems. And yes do thoroughly rinse the pipes to remove any Milton taste.

Cheers
