Water Heater Draining

Picked up new van two months ago.

Each time we leave site and I drain the hot water tank (lift up yellow tap) nothing happens. I have to open taps in kitchen and bathroom before water drains.

Previous vans have drained the minute I lift the tap.

Is this normal? The tank drains eventually, but sometimes only trickles out.

Van has been back to dealer who claim they've checked it and that there should not be any further problems, but slow or no draining persists!

We always switch pump off, open all taps, leave open, then lift drain tap.I don't know if all Vans are the same,, but we have always used the same method on various Makes.

Ian, with most newer vans the water system is the same design, where unless you open the taps a vacuum is formed in the pipework, preventing the water from draining.

As Shiba says, switch off pump, disconnect water from inlet, open all taps, including shower, if you have the singlew lever type, put in central position to allow air into both hot and cold pipework, then open drain tap, the water wil drain, not in a gush, but wont take long.

We just disconnect the pump then open all the taps, open the drain valves and leave it to itself.

Any water caught in non draining sections of piping soon get shaken out as we bounce along our loverly country roads.
