water pump.

hi its me again, i posted a message about my pump cont running in my swift challenger!!! ive replaced the pump, cos it burned out!!! checked all micro switches to taps seem ok, but its still running!!!! we have discovered previous owners added a switch inside van to switch pump off!! will i ever get to the bottom of this?? could it be the connection into the van?? there doesnt seem to be a water pressure pump anywhere, help!!! might just have to live with this problem i think but its a pain.

The only reason that the pump runs is that 12 volts is being supplied to the pump, so either:

1. One or more of the micro-switches have shorted and are permanently on - you will need a digital voltmeter to find which switch is faulty.

2. The 12 volt wiring has been "adapted" in the past and the micro-switches no longer form part of the circuit.

Fault finding this issue - assuming you have easy access to the wiring and the micro-switches (or the connectors from the switches) should not take more than a few minutes.

Start at the battery and follow the red wire to the switches and finally the pump, then follow the black wire back to the battery (or whatever colours are used)

Don't most vans have an isolation switch for the pump? My '98 swift has a single pressure switch in the water pipe to activate the pump. There are no microswitches in the taps. This would appear to be a much simpler system. Why was it not universally adopted I wonder?
 
Usually there is a connection near each micro switch where the wiring loom wire joins the wire to the micro switch

If you "unplug" the 3 live wires(?assuming 3 taps)and reconnect one at a time this will show you which microswitch is stuck on when the pump starts up.
