Weak Shower

Hello again

We've just been away for the weekend and when we came to use the shower (after a lot of work over the last few weeks on the shower tray) we couldn't get mroe than a dribble out of the shower head. Water pressure seems to be OK on the wash basin and sink but very limited on the shower. I have a Carver Thames submersible pump in the Aquaroll outside and there is no flow rate mentioned so I am assuming it is very minimal. Can I upgrade to something like the Reich 15L per minute and still use the carver hose and connections from the existing pump or is it a bigger job refitting the water supply

Hi Derrick

Assuming the pressure is OK at the basin, I would check a couple of things before investing in a new pump, we had problems with shower in last van and found that the red pipe that feeds the hot water to the shower had become pinched and had reduced flow, you will need to trace the pipe from the water heater and check, secondly the holes in the shower head need to be clear, any slight debris can reduce pressure. Hope this helps.

Hello Derrick,

I fully support the reply above. If teh pressure is ok at the basin, it should be reasonable at the shower. As it isnt, it strongly points to some restriction inthe pipe work or valves.

From memory, the Carver Thames is rated at 7L/m, pumps with larger flow rates do not necesarily produce more pressure, so changing to teh Reich may not be any better than the Thames. In principle you can fit other pumps to the Carver fittings.

Try the simple things first...........

Does the shower head allow you to turn the flow off, whilst maintaing your hot/clod balance at the taps?

The acctual bit the water comes out of twists on ours, does it on yours? has it been turned almost off?

gotta be worth a try!

Hi Guys

Thanks for the advice,I'll try to answer in order.

I have just replaced the shower tray which meant removing the vanity unit so, yes, there is a possibility of trapping the pipe behind it when I replaced it. I'll have to look at this at the weekend - Oh joy!!

I had thought of the shower head and tried a replacement from B & Q which wasn't any better so I assumed the domestic head to be non compatible and cleaned up the original with Viacal and

made sure all the holes were clear by fitting it to the mains unit in the house

Ours is not the "pull up from the basin" type of shower head, it has it's own set of taps with a hose leading up to the head so can't get restricted in this way
