Websites/delivery charges/ and Bargains

I use the internet for around 80% of my buying so I would class myself as a bit of an expert. It always makes my smile when looking for the best price for a product. I am new to caravans and have bought a new caravan from a Bailey dealer. As we all know this is just the start of whats needed when taking up this quite exspensive holiday style. I could of just done it the easy way and got the Bailey dealer to sell me everything else I need to kick start my caravan life. That not my tight A**E style. I enjoy finding my bits for the best price poss. Lets take the kettle I have chosen to buy, Website 1, £21.89 free delivery. Website 2, £24 plus £5.99 delivery. Ebay £15.99...wow bargain...but hold on...£10.99 delivery. This is just a snip of the different prices I found. After some time on the net I found that one website was the best and although there products were not the cheapest, there delivery was FREE over £20 spend. When will other companies learn that we are not all daft. This is how I buy everything and I find that it saves quite a bit of dosh.

It makes me laugh when I see some of the charges for delivery on Ebay ........

BUT

........ they do it for a simple reason.

The seller has to pay a fee based on the initial listing price (as well as final value fee) BUT there is no fee for postage charges so ...... inflate the postage so you can list at a low price and save fees (increase profit).

I know a few sellers who always do this.

I run an older MK1 Golf Cabriolet as a project car and Ebay is by far the best place for spares especially from the German Ebay.

I too do a lot of online shopping and spend time to compare prices and delivery charges to find the best deal.

With my old Carlight caravan parts can be found from time to time including a front window with had a crack on it.

I even buy my shoes online as I take a size 15 and high street shops seem to like to charge top price for these due to supply and demand.

Ebay US is a good source for these...

I've bought a CD from the U.S. but wouldn't you have to pay import duty Simon?

This is something that stops me buying from over there because I wouldn't want to be hit by a hefty surcharge. Very often computer programs are cheaper but I'm wary on buying them.

Dont always ignore the high p&p charges on ebay,as you can see by this thread it puts people off so prople dont bid on the items.This has worked for me as i have got the item cheap although p&p was high it was still much cheaper than the shops.The key is research if you are after something see what the cheapest price is online including p&p then bid just under (overall price including p&p) people get caught up with the auction and think because its on Ebay its cheaper its like anything shop around.If you dont win it just take your time it will come around again.

In respect of import duty if the declaration form on the package is ticked as being a gift then you will not be liable for duty payment.

I have only ever paid this once on a RC car from Japan and the price even with the duty was still cheaper than buying from the UK.

Hi everyone,

I to use ebay and have made some excellent purchases. I was speaking to a colleague, who sells things on ebay on a small scale.

He says he can never work out the postal/courier charges from the many options listed and has to try to find similar items and charge roughly the same or guess the charges so as not to lose out. I expect other sellers employ this 'overestimating' ploy so as not to lose out.
