I've just bought a Cadac Carri Chef Deluxe which was delivered today. What the bloody hell have I done?

Its 20Kg! Where am I going to carry that. I thought it was a light flat 'portable' thing. If I take it to Italy this year I think I'm going to have to weigh everything. The awning goes in the boot so I will probably have to try and fit the cadac in there as well.

Dooh!!!! Why didn't you check the weight of it before buying??? We bought the Eazi Chef (very similar but no tray underneath) because it wasn't as heavy. We leave the skottle at home to save weight.

ian, i have one of these also and it is the most versatile cooking appliance and worth every penny of the money and weight!! i put it behind my drivers seat in the car. it gets squashed between the drivers seat and the rear seat so it can't move about. You really need to pack it!!

Worth every ounce. Plus it will counterbalance our nose-heavy-even-with-a-nearly-empty-front-locker van. Hubbie not allowed to fry bacon in van so its his only hope of a cooked breakfast!

Best portable BBQ ever I reckon, and I have purchased a few over the years! Yes it is a bit on the heavy side but it does pack away small. Ours stores under one of the lockers of the single bed just behind the wheel and the lid travels in the boot. As some one else said, just carry the bits that you will use. Only problem I find is cleaning it!

Easy, give it some power spray, chuck some hot water on it and go have another drink.

we also have the carry chef delux. its fantastic cook bacon, sausage, eggs, onions, and mushrooms. we also bbq on it burgers, pork andthing it can cook we throw on it.

cleaning the lid aint to bad but when you have to take the bottom its heavy but its worth it.

i didnt think to just take what i need it goes in a bag and we take it all. it travels on the bed.

My very words! Bought one via fleabay from Camping International (arrived less than 24 hrs after ordering). Somewhat shocked by the weight, but after using it nearly every day on our recent hols I have to say it's the bee's knees and it'll be a regular item. Carried in the car boot, by the way.

We find the easiest way to keep it clean is to wipe it around with kitchen tissues while it is hot - it comes up very clean with just a thin protective film of grease on it, and if you do not like that I am sure a little bit of soapy water would deal with that.

We have not used the BBQ kit though because the griddle (both sides) and wok seem to cover all our needs.

I have been told the BBQ kit can be messier.

Assemble the legs and tooltray first and then pop the heavy bit on - a lot easier.
