Francis,
This site has been one of our regular haunts over the years and its always been a pleasure. If your traveling from the York direction via the A64, just follow the site directions and come off for Seamer, its all good roads. The final approach to the site is uphill for a few hundred yards but isn't a problem. Do not use the Sutton Bank approach on the A170 which is very steep and caravans are banned from using it.
The site is an old quarry just outside the village and has plenty of hard standing and grass pitches. It has two toilet / shower blocks that are the usual CC standard. It also has a very good dog walk which can be extended along the top of the vally via a gate.
The village has a Spar / Petrol station, two pubs that both do meals, chippy and a fish restaurant all within walking distance. Morrisons supermarket is about 2 - 3 miles away for all your shoping.
Your idealy placed for visites to Whitby, Scarborough and Bridlington but parking can be a problem. Pickering has the steam railway which passes through Goathland, Heartbeat, and now goes into Whitby. If you like walking, there are some good walks in the area, around up down and through the Hole of Horcum, Ravenscar to Robinhood Bay via the old railway line and back via the Cleaveland Way coastal path, this has some steep bits but its very enjoyable, approx 8 miles in total. For more reviews on West Ayton, have a look here, http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/ and do a camp site search then click on the R for reviews. Hope that helps.
