Whale Elegance Taps

Hi,

I have bought a very old caravan and would like to install electric running water. I have stripped out the old manual pump and taps, well everything inc pipes, as the thing wasn't working and was old - so I'm starting again fresh with everything. I have a question regarding microswitches. How do they work/how do i fit them??! I have bought a 12v submersible pump and have got a 12v socket down to the water container area - all wired up and good - but where does this microswitch come in? I know it activates the pump when the tap is turned on, so does that mean I need to get a 12v Supply up near the tap as well??

Thanks,

Alex (a novice with caravans - as you can probably tell!!)

Sorry - Forgot to include:

I'm using the single whale elegance tap, not the mixer one, as I'm not installing hot water. Thanks!

You need 12V and earth from the battery via an in line fuse to the pump

The +ve /live lead needs to got to the microswitch (and back to the pump)and be broken so that it goes to the two terminals on the switch

I always put a relay next to the pump as this means that you can use heavier cable and get better pump performance because of less voltage drop. The wires to the microswitch can then be lighter and the microswitches then are only carrying a light load to switch the relay and will last longer

Thanks John, I'm okay with the earth now, but just to confirm with the +ve

Battery > InLine Fuse > Microswitch > Pump???

Thanks :)

Hi Alex, regarding the instalation of your taps, you will need to take a 12v + supply from your battery to a fuse, 10 amp should be sufficent and then on to the Micro switches in the taps witch will need to be wired in paralell.by taking the wire with the marker to a terminal block. then take the other wires from the tap switches to another terminal block and then on to the pump + conection and then the other wire back to your Battery - connection.
