Hi , we have recently brought a 20 year old van (one owner previously) she’s no able to answer any questions so maybe someone here could help?

our water pump seems to work ok … but is doesn’t “fully go in” , I can see one washer is missing (it had perished) but it won’t go in “tight” I’m strong.. so no worries about not being able to push it in… but it just seems to be 2mm / 3mm proud … and now the pins / hinges on the very old door are stating to fail due to pressure of having pump head “pushed” in. And “under flap” … do I have the around pump head ?? Doesn’t look like it… any help
Would be appreciated- thanks you.

This is very helpful , thank you … but …. I have lifted the lid / flap fully open several time ms and seen others on site “install theirs” a few friendly chaps also offers to show me how to do it … only to be as puzzled as me… it just won’t go “-all the way in” , I understand the point / suggestion you have made relating to the lid / flap. Buts it’s not that (I’m 95% sure ) it doesn’t seem to want to go all th me way in .. can’t see why though , what is failing it to foul when going in?? Very strange .. will
Double check tomorrow with these new “how to “ documents.. hopefully it’s just me making a mess of it 😅

If one of the neoprene o rings has perished and is missing it might be well to replace the set - if one remaining is low 'stretched' then perhaps that is pushing out of the groove on fitting the plug and preventing the proper seating of plug in socket?

There is also the possibility although unlikely that the pump is not the exact one for your caravan. We had a 1998 Bailey and I am sure that it was fitted with a Truma pump so possibility that someone changed over the units at some point. Unfortunately without the owner's manual it is difficult to know. Contact Whale who are very helpful and will steer you in the correct direction.
