i would not of believe it if i had`nt seen it for myself,i got a callout for work today to go to preston & when driving down the m6 i struggled to get passed a caravan that was being towed by a bmw with 3 children in the rear seats,he was driving at 85mph

yes i know i was breaking the speed limit, but what consideration does he have for his children or wife if anything went wrong or any other road users.

i would of given him a hand gesture to shown my serious disapproval but that might of caused the accident that was waiting to happen

A303 Andover Friday - overtaken by an Alfa 147 towing a caravan - I was doing 70mph in the inside lane.

I noticed that the Alfa had no mirror extensions so this guy was blind because the caravan was not even a "see thro".

Sure enough after passing us and the cars in front - the indicators came on and he just pulled over causing us all to brake.

No wonder some view caravaners with such disdain.

Whilst 85mph is illegal in the UK my cruise control when towing in France is set at 130kph (c. 81mph) which is legal and safe.
It might be legal to tow at 130kph in France but it's certainly not always safe. Only under ideal conditions, a technically suitable outfit and with a fully alert driver can that sort of speed be considered safe. A lot of caravans have tyres which aren't even rated to go that fast. Thankfully, no other country has speed limits for towing as high as France's.
