What a Weekend

Got to Clumber Park at around 5.30pm last night, set up, Stu was getting water and a lady said to him, "do you have bikes with you" on the reply of "No" she said that theirs were chained up on Thursday night and were cut open with bolt croppers and stolen.

After tea, at 7.45pm the electrics went off, shortly followed by the mains water, on popping to the site office was informed there was a problem with the national grid. Toilet and shower blocks were closed and the site was in darkness.

Still no electricity or mains water this morning - advised it may be on around 12 noon but that was no guarantee, so we came home.

Couldn't give us a refund so she said we would be contacted by the CC head office and they would "sort it".

Won't be going again - especially as there are notices around site warning that the area is prone to theft. Shame as it's a beautiful place.

Lolly,

What a shame.....I have heard before that bicycle theft is rife at Clumber.A lot of B*****ds with nothing better to do.

That's not good at all. I wonder what the CC will offer you.

The site does have a reputation for theft that's why we haven't been.

Hi Lisa

It's such a shame, it's a really nice site, the lady was quite upset over the theft of her bikes.

I have no idea what the CC will offer, I would just settle for my pitch fees back, we had only been there for a couple of hours when the lekki went off!

Never mind, I am going to put whatever they give me towards buying a battery!!

Hi, when we were at Craigie Gardens in Ayr and the electrics went off for about 24 hours we got site night vouchers from the club, not cash. Hopefully their offer won't come as too much of a shock now.

When I collected my caravan from its service the other week, I got talking to a woman there and she said it's a fantastic site. I think people on here have commented about thefts, particularly bikes. It's such a shame but I guess it might make people uneasy with that hanging over them.

I bet she was upset too, I would have been. I can't understand thieves, I've never stolen anything in my life, not even sweets as a child.

Haven't you got a battery? (Sorry if that's a dumb question)!! LOL

Sorry you had such a bad time at clumber.

Bike theft is a real problem at clumber, we still go but we don't take the kids bikes.

I hope you get a refund.

Sharon.

Thanks Sharon

I was so disapointed, I was hoping a relaxing weekend away would stop me from trying to do things at home - guess not!

Watch this space on the "refund" front!!

Presthope is a nice place, on the site of the old railway station hence its long and narrow, like Aberbran where Lisa is going. I took a bird feeder when I went and they kept me amused for hours, lots of different species. There was also a short tailed vole feeding on the nuts that had been dropped below the feeder.
