Hi

We're new to caravanning (just picked up our 2004 Lunar Clubman) - we're about to start furnishing it with the usual caravanning luxuries and need to know the things that should be taken out of the van when it's in storage (it is being stored at a site away from our home). Can any experienced caravanners help us?

Thanks

Julie and Stuart

Remove EVERYTHING of value!

A caravan in storage away from home is at its most vulnerable to theft, either of the van, its contents or both, regardless of the "security rating" the storage may have.

I think another good point is to remove if possible all your cushions.

If you feel your storageis safe maybe leave a window so that you can just see the furnishings are missing as we were always told its a bit of a deterant as the van is no good to anybody withouit them. (just an idea)

Thanks for that, most helpful, anything of value will be removed. What about things like the awning; sleeping bags; pillows; towels etc, what are the risks regarding damp etc and things like the crockery; glasses etc?

Thanks

Julie & Stuart.

We tend to leave those sort of things in the van except the bedding , we always take that home and store it away.

you will find an absolute pain if you have to remove everything

The awning , well as a rule we take that out and store it in our garage.

This only what we do and of course how secure you think your storage is. Bed linen always take home and towels to refresh ready for the next outing.

Please note this is only what we do Im sure others will have different ideas and ways of wintering.

I hope this helps Sir Roger

Hi Julie and Stuart

We always take out bedding, towels, pillows etc. as these can become damp. Everything else like pots and pans, cutlery, dishes etc. will be fine if left in. We never remove our cushions and have never had a problem, but you could stand them on their edges if you feel inclined, particularly if there are no ventilation wall boards behind them.

Thanks, I had thought about buying a couple of those vacuum bags where you can store bulky items and remove all the air to stop damp etc getting to the, my plan was to then unpack them before departure to let them air off a little - has anyone used this type of thing?
