i am looking to upgrade my car for towing a caravan i have a 1.8 ford focus tdci,but find that i need that little bit extra power,i would like a car like a four wheel drive, but not a four wheel drive,around the 2.0 litre mark
 
Perhaps you'd be better posting this in the Towcars section - you might get more responses.

We tow with a Ford Mondeo Turbo Diesel which is a great towcar in a lot of respects, but we've had problems with the clutch (not related to towing - but a problem nevertheless). A Mondeo is the Towcar of the Year in the recent tests.
 
Hyundai Tucson.

Looks like a 4wd but there are some variants that are actually only 2wd. The Kia Sportage is the same car too.
