We are compleltely NEW to anything to do with Caravan holidays ....We would appreciate ANY advice on ( anything) & the following PLEASE !!.....

We have decided to buy the new Bailey Senator Carolina series 6 ( fixed 3 bunk) 08 model ....As our first ever caravan ...We saw this at Bawtry Caravans Doncaster ( last month ) .... We need the 'longer' bunks for my ( nearly 6 ft niece aged 13 to fit on) all the other models were too short in bunks ... .........We want to pay cash, we also would like a quality horning which we were advised to buy Isobella ??

Our query is ...should we hang on until the new range comes out ?? In order to get a better deal ?? Or do we buy now , to use for this season ? What should we expect to get 'thrown in' with the price ?? they did offer us £1,200 off the window price ! Is this just standard discount that they/ any dealer would reduce one by ??

We Honestly don't know what to do for the best ....We want the best deal , so joined this wonderful club for any advise that members would kindly offer from their own experiences !!

We were hoping to rent a seasonal pitch near/ in Skegness for the first season ...ANY rec would be more than aprreciated ( we have a 3 yr old ) & would be taking my 13 yr old Niece & my elderly VERY ABLE Mum & ( who likes a game of the old Bingo!!) so near to a bus route & the beach ??

ANY advice would be VERY much appreciated ...hope I have written this in the correct forum ...the moe I read I keep wandering IF we should go for a static ?? WE WOULDN'T use it our ...was just going for this option to avoid SILLY rents from static sites .....which would be the best option for us .....ANYONE been in this situation at all ?? ANY advise would be more than gtareful ...just want the best all round & to enjoy our little 3 yr old & find a happy holiday home for her XXX

FIRST TIME NERVES creeping in !!!

MANY THANKS for taking the time to read this ....hope you can advise us xx

Hi pat, we were in a similar situation to yourself last year. we have owned and toured with tourers in the past but found a seasonal site that we liked and had enjoyed two years based on (in north Wales). With a toddler and another child on the way,we wanted a new van and had contemplated a static.

In the end we opted to buy a Hobby 720ukfe which is probably one of the biggest tourers available with fixed double, bunks and room for three others adults to sleep. This suited OUR needs as it gave us the creature comforts and space of a decent sized van, was much more affordable than an equivalent uk van (or static), saved us nearly

In my opinion a tourer caravan, it is so much more yours. We now have a tourer but previously had a static on a well known site in West Sussex. All I can say is that static park owners are complete rip off merchants. It is not just silly rents but when you go to sell the static there are loads of hidden costs like the park owner taking a percentage of your sale!! If you look on the web you will find lots of sad stories about park owners riping off unsuspecting static caravan owners. It happened to us so please beleive me!!!!

Siting a tourer on a seasonal pitch is by far the best way to go and if after 2 years you want to change sites you can.

Good luck to you & just to let you know that buying a touring caravan was the best thing our family has done.

I purchased a new Bailey caravan from M jordons Giuldford and have had to book my first service back with them because nobody would service the van down here in west sussex because I did not purchase it from them so buyer beware. You can get cheaper van deals but you have to traval 100 of miles to get it serviced to keep the warranty up. If you phone bailey thay say there agents dont do this but I have news for them thay b***** well do.

Just phone round Bailey as a exercise and be a customer with a 1 year old van and you would like a first service done on it. First question did you purchase it from us. "NO" sorry no spaces in our service work shop.

Patricia,

Its all about opinions! We bought a Bailey from YC Leisure a couple of years ago. It was our last Bailey and I wouldn't be over confident about the dealer either!

If you are set on a Bailey, try Robinsons Caravans at Chesterfield or Barrons (now Discover) at York who both sell Baileys and will probably do a more competitive deal. (I'm assuming you are in Yorkshire neck of the woods as you have looked at YC).

I guess it depends how much you want to use the van over the coming months as to whether you take the plunge now or wait a few months for ex demos to become available. I wouldn't imagine Senator prices falling too much over the coming months as Bailey is currently concentrating on changing the Pageant range.

Isabella are nice awnings but pricey. Have a look at Ventura which are essentially the same awning, but a lot cheaper. Also consider if you need a full awning or a reasonable sized porch awning. You can transfer a porch awning to your next van, the full awning will most likely not fit.

If you put the van on a seasonal pitch, don't forget to tell your insurers.

Have a good shop around - there should be plenty of deals available over the next couple of months.

Before parting with your cash for a Bailey, take a trip to Lowdhams nr Nottingham and have a look at the Hymers.

If you buy a Hymer you are buying a caravan without any wooden framing whatsoever, they also use a closed-cell insulation foam, and marine ply for the interior board. A Hymer will last for years and will command a good price on resale (if the caravan market has not completely collapsed by then)

You get what you pay for - you can pay for pretty interiors and lots of gimmicks, or you can pay for *very* superior build quality.

You at least owe it to yourself to have a look at them before parting with your money - I'd lay odds that you won't buy a Bailey once you've seen them.

Hi,

We changed van to get a long bench seat 6ft 1" for my son (age 14 at the time)to sleep on. Your neice is obviously tall like him and what I would say is he outgrew the bed - we had the van 7 months and he grew to 6ft 5", so far..... Perhaps the bunk length should not be seen as so much priority - she will probably end up on the floor like him! Also he can only stand fully straight if he is under the heiki!!!
