Has someone removed Damian's original thread including comments from me, Soozeeg, Parksy and of course the brilliant Victor Meldrew posted by Lord B??

No wonder , die hards like Emmerson have fled!

It was removed by a non Haymarket moderator, we were planning on toning down some of the language but we would have left the thread there to be honest

I took it down following a conversation with Nigel the Editor.
I've been busy working on my car this afternoon and have only just seen this question otherwise I'd have 'confessed' earlier.
Damian and I made our feelings known, we were both very annoyed at the time and we became a bit personal toward the technical staff who are doing their best.
Because the topic went all replies automatically disappeared, these were not removed but went because there is no method of saving replies to topics that no longer exist.
We all know that there have been problems with this website. The Haymarket technical staff are fully aware that there are ongoing problems and are working to eradicate these issues.
I share Damian's frustration and Damian has tried more than anyone else to get Haymarket to provide a new website.
The problems especially the slow loading are incredibly frustrating but we shouldn't start to attack each other on the forum.
It's one thing to have the facility to report problems as they happen but 'tekkies' are real people with real feelings which can be hurt like anybody elses so maybe we were wrong to launch an attack on them?
I shouldn't imagine that my removal of the comments will be universally popular and if anyone is upset because I took the topic down I'm sorry.
I still think that on balance I did the right thing though.

Rude or not, long time served posters like Emmerson have flown the nest out of pure frustration. That's not right.

We all know John Duncan is away on vacation and I am sure when he returns all the bugs will be sorted.

I see this a bit like the APT ( Advanced Passenger train) Excellent ideas but lack of financial support. The Italians made it work with the Pendalino and now we buy our tilting trains from them!
I'm happy to await John Duncan's return and see if all our input cannot be put to a good constructive use and result in a forum that works exactly how we want,

Nigel D,
Your sentiments are appreciated and I am sure you for one will be pressing the IT guys and John Duncan to resolve all the issues asap. I for one do not blame you.

As for deleting Damian's post I think that was wrong, more so the posts were borne out of frustration. We cannot let people like Emmerson leave!! A great contributor who we cannot afford to lose.

I have just got back in from being on site and found that my posting from last night has been removed by Parksy.(which I have no problem with)
During the day I received a phone call from Simon Tremlett who is the Publishing Director.
We had a long conversation about what may be causing the major problems with the site and he has promised to do everything they can to resolve all the issues as quickly as possible, including moving the hosting to a more stable host.

My post last night was a result of total frustration over a forum which was billed as being better than the old one, and is not, despite having waited years for it to happen.

Whilst my post was rather blunt, it was not meant to be a soft approach, it was meant to rattle a few cages in an attempt to get this situation resolved.
Both Simon and Nigel Donnelly have said that they want the forum to grow and be the best, a sentiment which I echo completely.
I am assured that much work is being done by the Tech team to resolve all the issues, failure is not on the agenda.
I only hope that those who have found it too much so far and have stopped posting will keep looking in and rejoin the daily interraction as it improves, as many have invaluable advice and information which benefits lots of caravan owners, old and new.

To those who posted in support of that posting, thank you.
Your comments whilst now missing have not gone unrecognised by Haymarket, so they were helpful.

Having lost the will to live yesterday, I now feel a little more optimistic that we will get a fully functional forum in not too much more time.

Post script: Before anyone asks, NO, I did not apologise for the posting and neither was I asked for an apology.

It didn't bother me about my pic being taken down, it was posted to try and make light of the matter. My time in editing the pic doesn't come cheaply though especially as the lead needs replacing on Screwham Hall so Haymarket Towers will be receiving a bill.

Well I've been on the old site for donkeys. It's a new site now, it's bound to have teething problems. It's not exactly like we've lost the cure for cancer is it? It's a caravanning forum and I'm sure it will improve. Lots of new systems/websites/forums have teething problems.

I would lay money on the fact that anyone who seems to have disappeared due to the problems will be back. This site has to be the best on the market. I've looked and been members on other sites and quite frankly, they're not much cop at all. The reason I like this site, apart from the fact it is highly informative, is that it's owned by a proper organisation, not a one man band which allows offensive postings to remain.

Keep up the good work you techie guys and gals, it's appreciated. All the best.

Failure is not an option because that would lead to myself and John Duncan being unemployed, and that really isn't an option!

By the way there are more technical people here than just John, a fair few things have actually been fixed on the site since he has been away and more are coming. Obviously the performance is the big one and we took a big step towards improving that today, which is nice.

As things happen we will let you know, we also have some smaller changes that will make it easier to get in touch with us when things go wrong as they did last night. As you can see by my posting at 10.30 at night this isn't "just a day job" for me and we are as frustrated as you are.

Farty old bean fear not, Buggram Hall is safe. Dunkers has promised me that he has no intention of harming Englands heritage. He will recover the costs for the Treasury by taxing caravans and instigating a M.O.T.
