Hi folks

I am going to be buying a caravan in the next few weeks, and

obviously I am gonna be needing caravan insurance.

Having never owned a caravan before, what shoudl I think about

before buying caravan insurance? What should I be looking in

the company?

How did you know that you go the right company and the right

insurance?

Should I just buy the cheapest, or is there something in

particular I should be looking for?

Any pointers and help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hello Dave

Take as much advice off caravanners who have had dealings with caravan insurers as possible.

If your prospective caravan is under 5 years old does the policy include new for old cover, so that if the worst happened you wouldnt be still paying for the previous caravan and trying to make up any shortfall due to deteriation and vat?

What terms and conditions are you prepared to accept? The policy might stipulate that the caravan has to be kept in a secure place, be fitted with a wheelclamp and hitchlock and have an alarm fitted.

Another point to watch out for is how much policy excess you will pay, this can vary between insurers by quite a wide margin.

The cheapest policy is not always the best, have a look at the terms and conditions of several policies and first and foremost find out what happens if the worst happens to your caravan.

Are the insurers going to pay out without hassle?

A good starting point is the club insurers, both CC and C&CC are reputable insurers so use them as a benchmark by which to judge other policies.

Knowledge is power, so find out as much as you can before commiting to anything.

Hope this helps
