It depends where you want to watch satellite TV and what channels. A 50cm dish should be adequate if you only want to watch Sky channels and only in the UK.

Hi Trev

I looked into this 4 years ago. Don't be penny wise pound foolish. Like everything, you gets what you pay for. With thanks to David Sullivan's excellent site as stated by Andrew I went for the Maxview 66cm portable satellite kit.Today they are around teh

Hi Trev

Don't get ripped off by UK prices - you can buy the complete kit - 85cm satellite dish and receiver for free channels in any French or Spanish DIY superstore for around 79 euros. You can use it with your sky box if you wish to get all the channels that you subscribe to back home. You will need to purchase a length of co-ax cable and something to mount the dish on. Tripods as marketed by Max-view, sold by Towsure, are excelent but pricey (

Hiya Joby,

How are Sheila & Stuart? Funnily enough when I was there last week June/1st week July this year I couldn't get a signal on the 80cm dish but got a perfect one with the "standard" 45cm sky dish, really strange!

Although the perceived advice is that the further south you go the bigger the dish you'll need, it seems that in certain area's you'll still get a good signal on you're bog standard dish! the other thing to remember is that the bigger the dish the more acuracy you'll need in alignment, you have to be spot on otherwise no signal!

Hi GeorgeB ,we didnt stay on the site you done a review about in Carlucet ,we stayed at my wifes cousins place about 5 mins from there ,she has enough room in her garden to start a CL site ,which was very handy for us ,we had free caravan site with small swimming pool ,and as she has lived there a number of years ,she was our local guide ,one thing that struck me George was how clean the streets were ,and the lack of graffiti , i shall definately be going back ,
