We use our caravan as much as possible and go away locally just for the weekend. Some times if the weather is bad we like to watch tv but are fed up with a grainy picture or no picture at all. We have Freeview at home and would like this while we are away. We are not sure what is the best set up and are afraid to just buy one we would like people's feedback that already have a satellite dish please? We have a tv with Freeview built in we understand you have to have a satellite receiver like a Sky box and viewing card, and you need a dish but which one is best please? Can you get a Sky box that is older so that we don't have to subscribe to Sky? Appreciate any help, information, etc.Cheers Mandy

are you taliing about Freeview or Freesat as they are 2 different things.
I suspect its Freeview , which you only need a digial aerail not a dish for. Modern van aerials may already be suitable but they are fairly cheap anyway.
There's plenty of posts on the forum that should give you heaps of info.

Its not necessary to have a satellite to get free view,as your TV has a built in digibox you might found getting a good quality Ariel that you connect to your A frame would work in the vast majority of places anyway.

Thank you for your replies. We have a good ariel as we have a Bailey Indiana 2005 but very rarely get Freeview whilst away. We want to set up a satellite receiver so we can get tv anywhere.

You have a choice of Sky (with subscription), FreeSat (free!) or Sky without subscription. The latter two have a a similar selection of channels to your Freeview, with minor variations. An old Sky receiver can be used for subscription free Sky viewing.
Your satellite dish size is determined by the area you'll be using it: England = small dish, Scotland / Europe = larger dish. Smaller dishes are easier to set up.
It will be difficult to set up initially, but gets much faster with practice.

We are in Germany at the moment and have brought our Sky olus box from home with large dish. We have an excellent reception and having our card gives us all the Sky programmes. With out the card you can still get BBC 1, 2, and ITV plus other free channels. In fact here in the Black Forest we are receiving BBC1 Look East which is handy as we live in Suffolk. We have usually brought a second hand box with us but the Sky Plus box seems to work better both here and in the UK.
Hi Mandy,just thought i would let you know what i have done .A mate was dumping his sky dish so i took it and fitted it onto a new camera tripod, also donated and then bought a sky digibox from e-bay for

Mandy I suspectyou may have the old "flying saucer"status arial on a 2005 senator & in which case I would suggest you get yourself a
decent digital compatable arial,,& an amplifier for your van that is if you have FREEVIEW on your television. If it is indeed FREESAT you have then the sat dish is the way to go
