wheel balancing

do caravans leave the factory with wheels balanced if not do they need balancing my caravan is a swift challenger 570.

I believe the only manufacturer who used to balence wheeels was Elddis,this may have changed though?

Wheel are balenced for a reason,on a car you get vibration so i would think a caravan would be the same.

My Hymers have not been factory balanced.

However to my way of thinking its illogical to expose the van and its suspension system to unnecessary vibration that can so easily and cheaply be avoided. The vibration is not something you will be aware of however from the tow vehicle.

In all cases I have been surprised at the mass of balance weights needed for these special van tyres relative to what car tyres need.

The fitter has implied that they normally are way out due the their heavier construction; in my book this endorses my decision to get them balanced.

My friendly fitter tells me your average 600mm diameter new tyre is 30grams a side out of balance when fitted.

Nevermind there are two or even four tyres to consider, if you calculate one tyre with that sort of imbalance spinning at 60mph, it is over 7kg's of force hitting the ground 14 times a second?!

For many years now i have always had the wheels balanced on my caravans.As has been stated if your car wheels are out of balance you get terrible vibrations.I often wonder amongst other reasons if this is why wheels work loose on caravans.

I`ve always balanced my caravan wheels, why not? take your wheels off and pop down to your nearest tyre depot and get them done not that exspensive. I agree with the theory that it might cause wheel nuts/studs to loosen, this is just a thought.

I have bought three new caravans over the years, two British and one continental none of which came with balanced wheels. I've often thought it strange that if balancing wheels was so important why don't manufacurers balance wheels on new caravans.

Financial,like they wont fit shocks if they can avoid it,have done both and feel its money well spent.
