hi

i want to pick someones brains.. we have a dorema awning and it as the usual bottom skirt or i think someone as once called it a valance ??. it comes with a piece of similar stuff which is for covering up the wheel arch.. it looks about 5 ft long so i think it can cover twin axels but here is the question..? what is the best way to attach it. its a new caravan so i dont want so to be screwing holes in the side..i have been told velcro might do the job but seeing as we are new to caravanning was wondering how you all fixed yours. i think i also need something that resembles a figure 8 for attaching both awning strips together..the one on the valance and the one on the wheel arch cover.. i can only thing it looks like letter C's back to back. where do i get this from..

i know these seem like rather daft questions but we have only been out with van a couple of times and dont want to look stupid, although i think up to now, im failing

thanx for any help you can give

Yes, you need a figure of eight. Available from most good caravan accessory shops. They might call it something different, but describe what you want and they should have it. It allows you to fix awning skirt "bead to bead".

Fixing the top of the wheel cover is simple. Fit a couple of brass or plastic eyelets in each corner, then buy two suction hooks. Attach them to the side of the caravan, and buy two spares for when you lose them!

Velcro will work, but it might slide in the heat and make a mess on the side of the caravan.

Hi Darrell.

Get a piece of white upc profile 2" wide and length to suit. Attach your wheel cover to it with glue and then drill three holes through to accept suction cup hooks. When on site put the cup hooks through the holes, apply a bit of spit and stick them to the side of the van. You will have threaded the bottom of cover through the figure of eight first. Hope this makes sense. The reason for the Upvc is to maintain a flat surface to the entire width of the cover thereby stopping draughts.

Hi Darrell,

Go for the velcro option.I tried this many years ago and bought some cheap stuff and yes in the heat it slid off leaving a sticky mess. Go for the Scotch 3M version it is dearer in price but you will not have to replace it!

Excellent product, 4 years down the line and we have not had to replace.

HI Darrell.

If your van is smooth sided, you could try investing a quid in your local pound shop and buying some suction cup hooks. They are normally used on the fridge at home to hang tea towels on etc. These would not leave any glue marks and not need any drilling either.

You could leave them in situ and just hang the wheel cover on them.

Steve.
