Where can I get a spare water pump for our caravan?

Hi All!

Ok as the resident newby to caravans (Just been given one!) I am on a steep learning curve!

We were given a Elldis Mistral GTX (1990) by the wife of a departed friend of ours, its a lovely outfit, very clean and considering the year has all the mod cons and is very comfortable. On going to my local caravan store I purchased the "Start-Up Kit" consisting of batteries, gas, chocks, loo chemicals, aqua roll etc etc.

However, I wanted to purchase a spare water pump for the caravan...this i thought may have been an easy process but the lady was not very helpful when I asked.

I have been down the route of looking through the paperwork and contacted Explorer Group, who only sent me a PDF file of the spces, but it says nothing about the pump...

So, today I have gone to the caravan and opened the water pump hatch, which seems to lift out and slides up on itself on top of the opening. The pump is Blue plastic with a cup thing over the top, and appears to be fixed inside the hole by 3 screws (I have not undone these for fear of breaking it!)

looking at the actual pump that goes into the aqua roll, its white, seems to be a carver/whale 881 pump? Anyway, I looked on a well known auction site tonight to see if I could find one, but the ones listed with 881 seem to appear to have a different fixing???? (Sorry if this is not clear - told you im new!)

my question is, how on earth and where can I obtain another pump? I am not certain of the connector as all the auction ads say these clip in to the hole, but mine looks like its got 3 screws connecting the actual dangly blue cable to the caravan.....

any help would be great, I am supposed to be going away at the end of this month for a few days to "experiance" our first caravan trip....At 27, I think I have already caught the bug, as I cant wait to get away in her!!

Thanks

Kal

Kal I would suggest you go to www.towsure.com and you should be able to identify your from the picture shown.

Our Elddis pump was just a plug in the side of the van two electic terminals and the water orafice.

Im sure the regular guys on here will help you more with this butas I say Towsure show pictures of the pumps

Hope this helps Stewart

Hi Stewart,

Thanks for that, I will have a look today and see what I can find out. Worse case I guess I can photograph the actual pump and send it to them to identify also!

Hello Kal,

First of all DON'T PANIC!

It seems to me that you most likely have a Carver Crystal Filter Mk1 water inlet system. This uses a submersible pump which is fitted to the caravan through a twin bore blue hose. The fixing into the housing is the three screws, and you should be quite safe to remove these to release the hose and pump. You will then need to disconnect the power wires to the plastic plug.

There is nothing special about the actual pump, You may be lucky and find a caravan spares dealer with a complete Mk1 pump, but more likely to find the Mk2 or 3. However your pump can be replaced with almost any submersible pump from Whale, Comet or Reich, the difficult part is to get the new pump cable up through the second bore of the pipe.

One of the difficulties that can arise, is the original Crystal housing may split, and leak. You can obtain a Mk2 housing with an adaptor plate to allow the MK2 to fit into the space left by a MK1.

All of these options are within the capabilities of most DIY'ers
