Hi Mark

The Wardens will tell you....some want you to pitch with the peg in the middle, some offset, some want the car parked at one or other side, some in front (or even in the car park!). Each site is different, but you'll most likely be told when you arrive and book in.

Have a great first weekend!

Hi Mark,

If you're on a hardstanding / gravel pitch, you'll usually want to pitch close to the left hand side as you look into the pitch, ie, the side of the van that doesn't have the door is to the outside edge of the pitch. This will then allow you as much space as possible to put any awning up, on the caravan door side and possibly even park the car next to the awning.

Enjoy !

Its best to check with the warden

I parked last week on a large end pitch in line with the next van and levelled etc before going the give the CC warden the pitch no

I then discovered that it was at the side of the van and HRH was installed

On asking the warden he replied that I could park diagonally if I wanted

They aren't all so nice !!

Its usually centre of van or nearside rear to peg on CC sites but ask first

The pegs are usually on 6in nails and its dead easy to get then centre or left(wink wink)

Hi Mark.

Generally if your on grass you pitch sothat caravan & awning are central to the marker peg. On hard standings, pitch so that the awning sits on the hardstanding and doesn't sail over onto the grass.

Most wardens are helpfull folks and will advise their preference.

Last year on our seasonal pitch I was told by the warden to let my awning sail onto the grass as i have a 3Mtr deep awning, 2.5 being usually catered for on pitches as site owners haven't yet modernised pitches to accept wider awnings which are becoming more popular.

Then we had a warden change.

The new chap wanted me to re site the van which I refused to do as there would be a dead patch of grass viewable then.

This year we have returned to the same site and pitched the caravan and awning on the stone, only just though. But the barrels are on the grass.

But they have left the damage to the previous pitch to go to mud. I feel guilty and would buy seed to re-sow grass for them, but after the moaning I had last year another side of me say's why bother.

99.999999% of wardens are extremely helpfull and pleasant people it's just the 0.000001% of "forest grumps" who spoil what is generally a very good relationship.

Having measured the width of my van with the awning up, I know I need 18 feet of hard standing to pitch my van. Now with tape measure in hand I can measure the pitch and determine if the unit will fit. On my current pitch there is a 8 inch discrepancey front to back of the pitch width which doesn't help if you need every inch of stone, does it !

Generally the rule is that there must be 6 metres between each van for prevention of spread of fire, so if someone decides that they want a bit extra and puts their van on the edge of the pitch when the rule is for the middle, then they are compromising the fire break rules. The wardens will tell you where they want the van to be pitched and it's for safety, not just to be bloody minded if they ask you to shift your van because it's in the wrong place. Just because you've decided to buy a ginormous awning doesn't mean that the rules don't apply in your case.
