Which Caravan cover?

Purchased a Purpleline cover last September for my Bessacarr 645GL. It was a great cover until it totally disintigrated into dust a few weeks ago. Managed to get a full refund from the supplier who told me it is a winter cover only as strong sunshine will damage it! The Purpleline website say's "The Breathe-tec material also provides UV protection".....be carefull if you by this product I was lucky!! So I am looking for a replacement do I buy a Pro-Tec or Specialised Accessories cover?, they claim the same and they are the same money...any assistance greatly appreciated!

Hi Nic,

I wouldn't bother at all. I am of the belief that no cover can cater for all weather conditions, and the only time they are any good is in still conditions with heavy rain. If its blowing they chafe the bodywork and hold moisture inside when there's condensation caused by temerature changes I think a good clean now and again with Fenwicks is better that any cover. brian.f

Sorry, have to disagree with Brian. I have a Protec cover and it has been on the van continously for the last 2 years due to other reasons. Took it off earlier this week and a brand new shiny van appeared. 2 things make me support them. Firstly leaving the van exposed will cause the sun/light to fade the paintwork and yes, you can re buff it back, but you are removing paint to do so, and secondly any trees nearby will drop seeds, sap and anything else you can care to mention on the van until it becomes a nice shade of green. I noticed this because the cover is streaked significantly with the debris from foliage, while the van underneath is perfect. The professional covers from Companies such as Protec are designed to breathe and will not cause any condensation.

One problem I did discover after 2 years was that the front of the van faced south and the heat built up under the cover so that the mastic on the joints oozed out a bit. The other problem was that the cover will tear where it rubs against protusions such as vents etc. But you do get patching material.

For a couple of hundred quid I feel it is worth it.
