which chemical ?

Hi,

I finally need to replace the elsan double concetrate flush and waste that i bought 5 years ago.

I know the blue stuff is a bit nasty - so What do you use - and is it effective.

The sachets for the waste look nice but expensive and Fenwicks top and tail seem like an interesting solution but does it work as well as the elsan product ? Don't wan't any nasty smells.

Hi Mike,

I'm toilet monitor in our family, and I personally would avoid the Fenwick's top and tail stuff. We bought some last year as it sounds a good idea, 1 bottle instead of 2, but it doesn't work as well.

We used it for 2 weeks while we were away in France, and found that it doesn't mask the toilet smells very well at all. We've got an end bathroom, which opens next to the fixed bed, and if anyone went to the loo during the night, we got an unpleasant wiff when they opened the door.

We got home and chucked the rest of it out, and went back to Thetford pink and blue, which i find the best.

Cheers,

Lara.

Hi Mike,

Firstly, if you made some chemicals last 5 years, I suggest you get out more ;-).

I like you didn't liked the sound of the blue so when the "organic" solution came out I transferred over and used it for most of last year. I liked the sound of just one bottle and that it was bio degradable. However like Lara, I also found it did not mask the smells so well, especially when the weather was warmer. I also had doubts that it was breaking the waste up so well, but that could have been my imagination. We also suffered with black bits in the flush tank. I kept trying with the organic and used about 5 bottles over the season (we use the van a lot on CL's & CS sites), so it had a good chance. I have now gone back to the blue and pink. I keep a small bottle of pink on board and top it up when required from a larger bottle at home. I keep a standard size "Blue" on board. All is much better on board, but not so good for the environment! Hope this helps you.
