which club to join???

Hi - we are new to the whole caravanning thing and would welcome some advice. We would like to join either 'The Caravanning Club' or 'The Camping and Caravanning Club' but are not sure which way to turn.

Any advice - thanks
 
We are going away in October, not the most busy time of the year!!and are staying in , or near Birmingham for one week.

The site closest to the place I have to go to for the week is a C&CC site, and as a non member I was quoted
 
I agree Damian, it would be nice if the C.C. took the concessionary rates on board. I'm not sure why they don't but from a guess it's because the C.C. has a higher proportion of older members compared to the C.&C.C. who have a younger membership due to tenters.
 
Hi Fiona, we are in c.c but we don't really use their sites, we got our insurance cheap with them though. The caravan site guide book we received when we joined has a lot of sites in which are for statics only which i found a little dissappointing.apart from that... no probs!!!!
 
We joined both clubs and use sites in both. I think that the CC has the edge in facilities but the nightly fees are higher. My husband qualifies for the concession rate in the C&CC so we can save at least
 
thanks all - we have decided to taje your advice and are going to join both and then make a decision in a years time - just cant wait to get somewhere in our caravan!!!

Don't forget to get a Caravan Club credit card each - you get two free site nights just for joining up and using it once and then you can collect them as you spend as well. We've got about 10 now we just need to be able to get into one of their sites now!! Seems you have to book in about Feb if you want to get in any weekend over the summer!

As a member of the Caravan Club I was puzzled to see that you said that a lot of sites are for statics only.This is not the case,so have you misunderstood the information?

The maximum stay on site is normally for 21 nights only.

There are of course some sites which have seasonal pitches for touring vans and the odd site that the Club has bought over with statics because they have to honour the leases which are in place.

It seems a shame that you are a member but have not tried any of the sites.

I have to admit I too thought that comment a little strange Maureen. Where are these C.C. sites that are statics only?????

CC sites book 2007/2008 list

Green pages46-247 = Club sites

Pink pages 275-530 = CL's

Blue pages 543-611 = commercial sites

Hi maureen,

When i joined c.c i received a book named caravan and motorhome holiday parks guide well in it there is a lot of parks which do not accept tourers, that is what i meant...., not that a lot of c.c sites didnt.. thanx
 
Graham South West Brum....we won 1st prize of a weeks stay at a campsite close to Birmingham, 2nd prize was two weeks at the same site and Thrird Prize was a full month!!!

Sorry about that....Seriously though we have some friends that live in Kings Norton and we visit the CC site at Chapel Lane every year for a few days but only because this site is only 10 minutes from where they live. There is loads to do around Brum and the Black country. It is handy site for visiting the NEC.

On the subject of senior discounts in low season. It would make good sense for the CC to have more people stay because most sites are barely half full during the low season and I would have thought it would be an incentive for them to fill as many pitches as possible. We would definately stay on CC sites more often if they offered a discount or they reintroduced the midweek Three nights for the price of Two (for everyone) that they had a few years ago. We made full use of this discount but it was discontinued about 4 years ago. We now tend to use private sites that offer better rates or an out of season discount.
