Can any one help? Our caravan has standard a Omni-Directional Antenna and want to get something better. Should I replace it with Directional Antenna or go for something like a Maxview Sat/Dish? Does anyone have any advice on what is best please?

We have a Status 530 and that is very good on freeview.

We have a Maplins/Lidl/Aldi suitcase freesat satellite kit and you will not get CH4 or 5 at present on that.

We use the satellite in poor signal areas or for long stays.

I find this combination more than adequate.

You would easily get both of these for the price of a Maxview.

Garry, so do you think we will be able to live with the Satus 530 and get a good signal?

Hi, I use a satelite dish on my caravan with my sky box from home, I get all the programs as if I were sat in my armchair at home watching tv. We towed to France last year set up the dish and within 5 mins it was set up and working.

Obviously you will need a sat/dish if you have sky at home all you need to take with you is the digibox, you may need a tripod to mount the dish as on some sites you could be pitched under a tree or close to a hedge.

I purchased my suitcase sat/dish off ebay for

In most UK sites you will get a good signal - even better when digital switchover completed.

I would still have the satellite kit as a back up.

If you can not afford both or only want one option I would go for the satellite as it is cheaper than the 530, will pick up more channels and will work in more locations.

You can still get ch4 and 5 on analogue and I suspect they will be free to air by the time the digital switchover is completed.

Graham 2s method is fine and will give you ch4 and 5 now but you will lose a few other stations like E4, More4 because SKY like to charge for them, they are free on freesat.

Garry, many thanks for your help and the others. I thought the 530 would have been cheaper than buying a sat/dish and receiver. I don't have sky at home just anf freeview box for the kids. So I take it I need the sat dish and receiver to get me away? If so can you recommend any makes so I can look for them on ebay perhaps?

Cheers
