Hi Dave,

The www.viamichelin.co.uk travel site gives the A30 rather than the A38, but I am sure someone will be along shortly to confirm.

we take this route every year the a30 is ok during the night but you really want to be away from any service stations and preferable at your destination by 530- 6 am because all the happy campers sleep in the service stations and lay bys weve always set of at 1130 fri night and been there 6 am ish sat morning then we just sit in site holding field cooking sausage butties and get our pitch at 10am

this year we are going to devon though blub blub so were hoping it will be the same there

We've just come back from Godrevy Park (great place) and used the A30 to Exeter than up the M5. Motorway fine, but we did have a couple of hold ups on th A30 at Okehampton and Redruth (I think) due to new roundabout works and road improvements going on. It was generally due to two lanes narrowing down to one causing the problem. I should imagine at night you should't suffer in the same way. Have a great holiday

We normaly take the A30 as it is the most direct route, however we have just returned from newquay and there are 2 major sets of road works on the A30 until early 207 so i would recomend the A38 via Plymouth then via St Austel (A391 I think).

As I was going to St. Ives I met a man with seven wives,

Each wife had seven sacks, each sack had seven cats,

Each cat had seven kits: kits, cats, sacks and wives,

How many were going to St. Ives?

It's a riddle of a poem!

The Answer to the Riddle

Only one man was going to St.Ives!

He met the following who were

going the other way:

A man (1) with 7 wives

7 x 7 (49) sacks

7x7x7 (343) cats

7x7x7x7 (2,401) kits

A Total of 2,801 wives, sacks

cats and kits!

"This type of conundrum is now referred to as a logic problem in lateral thinking designed to improve the logic and deductive skills of children, and indeed, adults! (As I was going to St. Ives refers to the name of a quaint old village in

Cornwall, England) Earliest traceable publication date is 1730."

Imagine it seven wives equates to seven mother in laws. Dear God perish the thought. I appreciate the very detailed answer and explanation PC. Well done - some people say I'm in my second childhood but I could not remember the poem. Thank you

As evrybody has said ....definatley the A30

But......At all costs avoid the A30 stretch between Bodmin and Indian Queens.I live in this area and there are Major Road works that are causing HUGE delays both during the week and especially at weekends.

There is no sensible way around them, so make sure you cross this stretch before 7 am otherwise expect delays of 3 hours or more.

Last weekend the queues stretched for 11 miles before the road works began.

Next year it will be dual carraigeway all the way from Exeter to Truro......Bliss

Do what I do, Live in Cornwall, and holiday in your Caravan ....in Cornwall!!! Sorted.

I'm worried about that last post.

The greens and the wonders that be that advise the government reckon that road improvements, widening and by-pass's make no improvements at all.

Norfolk Mike

I find the A14 can be bad from Cambridge so I go via Fordham, haddenham and Earith, now that should cause some fun.
