We bought a new caravan at the start of the year with a bulkhead mounted regulator. The dealer supplied/fitted a pigtail connector to our existing 7kg butane bottles but I'm thinking of changing over to BP Gas Light. Presumably I need a new connector so I've had a look on the web, but I can only find either butane or propane pigtails. Does the propane one fit both calor and BP? All the pigtails for sale seem to be just a pipe, but I've got a tap on the end of my current one so do you need to buy a propane tap as well? Is this specific for each gas supplier? Exactly what do you need to buy?

Normally the pigtails are either Butane or Propane and are basically a pipe with the relevant end connector for whichever gas you are using.
So, a Propane pigtail would be a M20 nut at one end which goes on the regulator and a POL (Bull Nose Fitting) at the other.
The Butane would be a M20 nut as previously, with a Butane Nut at the other.
An alternative is a pigtail with a M20 nut at each end and an adaptor for clip on Butane cylinders.
There should not be a tap in the pigtail on a caravan.
On a motorhome with the Drive Safe system, the Truma pigtail does have a tap in it.
Sounds like your van is fitted with one of those, for some strange reason.

Yes I've definitely got a tap/ clip on adaptor. Well how do you turn it off for travelling etc? Do you have to unscrew the bullnose end every time? And does the bullnose fit both calor and BP bottles?

Now that you have confirmed that you have a clip on adaptor, that DOES have a tap on it, which is turned off for travelling.
Clip on cylinders do not have a shut off valve on the cylinder.

In answer to one bit of your question I do know that you require a different connector for BP gas to Calor. When I changed a few years ago it took a bit of finding to get the correct one but my local BP gas stockist turned up trumps having the bit in stock.
Thanks for the information both. So it looks like I need a standard propane pigtail plus a special adaptor for the gaslite bottle but not a tap as there is one on the bottle. Why do companies make these things so difficult? I suspect its so dealers can have a monopoly on supplying the fittings at maximum cost. I've just been reading the thread about Gaslight on the continent (64 buck question in the general section) where someone states BP gas light have different fittings in each country of the EU!!! WHY??? What point is there to the EU if they can't say to bottle providers that they must have a standard fitting for each type of gas?
Truma sell the 27mm connector with pigtail for the bulk head regulator for the BP gaslight cylinders calor propane or butane regulators are no good
I changed over to BP last year from Calor propane. I couldn't find a dedicated hose with the clip-on adaptor although they may be available now(but I still can't find one). I bought the 27mm clip-on adaptor and a stainless steel Gaslow BUTANE hose as the adaptor is threaded to suit this nut. The propane pigtail will NOT connect to the adaptor. The Propane 27mm Regulators you may see advertised are exactly that - regulators for use with older caravans without the bulkhead mounted regulator which you have. The adaptor has a tap to isolate the bottle. If you're not sure about all this, then I suggest you go and see your dealer and ask his advice.

So what I really need is not a new pigtail at all, just a new clip on 27 mm adaptor which should screw directly into my existing butane pigtail!

that's correct,&the gas switch off tap is /should be just below the bulkhead regulator See the gaslow website

If you are referring to the yellow gas valve, that is NOT a valve for continual use.
It is ONLY there for testing purposes and should NOT be used as a main gas turn off method.
