Not sure why I'm thinking about corner steady locks all of a sudden but I am. Which do people use and pros and cons!? Is it worth it? are they going to slow down the hardened individuals that pinch our vans or just the opportunists that will be put off by the hitch lock and wheel clamp anyway?

I've looked into corner steady locks.. Some of them can be bypassed with a pipe wrench on the thread.. I'm looking for the type that will prevent the thread turning at all when the lock is in place.. - Millenco did one but I've not seen it on shelves or their website for a while now.

According to our local crime prevention officer who is also a caravanner the steady will be ripped off, unbolted, easily cut and bent by most pro thieves if they pick your caravan. "Don't waste your money".

I doubt that they will stop a theft. They are unlikely to be noticed by a thief until he tries to hitch up and at that point he is probably committed, it may delay him another ten minutes which does slightly increase the chance of being caught but in most cases will not stop him. The only time it might work is when you are away from home. Ripping off or unbolting the corner steadies on site or on a service area would look odd and might attract too much attention.

Some caravan alarm systems incorporate a 'leg winding' alarm as standard. These arm automatically whenyou set the alarm and claimto have a tamper circuit which sets off the alarm shoud the wires be cut.
This strikes me as a good alternative to steady locks - no more keys to loose, things to set in the pouring rain etc.

I use them when the van is in store. Yes a determined thief can proably get them, or the steadies, but along with two wheel locks and an Alko hitchlock my aim is purely selfish........make them move along to someone's elses van which is less well protected.
