We are looking to go to Whitby in August. We have already been to Ladycross and will never return there, Sandfield is fully booked. Any other suggestions? Only need EHU and toilets/showers.

Thanks in advance

HI

We staye at lady cross earlier in the year and we wont be returning either my son is a rugby player for a local team and we were throwing a rugby ball hand to hand along the length of our and the brother in laws van and we got told off and our niece got told off for flying a kite.

We went to ugthorpe lodge which is on the moor road and it was a lovley site and it has a pub with it which serves nice meals you could try there not much else on it though appart from a small ball playing area.

Hi Steven.

Have you tried Middlewood Farm Holiday Park at Robin Hoods Bay/Fylingthorpe?

We used to stay there regularly upto a few years ago.No particular reason for not going now apart from having a change.

Good facilties, shop and pub 5 minute walk away,Whitby 5 minutes drive, plenty of walking, cycling, etc.

I think, these days, you'll need to book in advance.

Hope you get fixed up somewhere.

Dave

Hi all, we are looking at sites in the Whitby area and have made a shortlist of possiblities including Ladycross. Why do people not like this particular site? We are new to caravanning and any comments would be very useful in helping us make a decision.

We went to the Vale Of Pickering caravan site and could not fault it, it was clean tidy, people were very friendly, the kids didn't want to come home! It is on the Pickering to Scarborough road which is an excellent base place to be within easy distance of Pickering, Scarborough, Goathland and Whitby.

The problem we had with the site was purely the attitude of the owners/warden. The site it self was lovely. When we got to the site we were told that we would be shown to our pitch. We were not allowed to reverse on and instaed had to push it onto the pitch, this was done but there wasnt enough room for our awning but they refused to move the caravan even tough the pitch next to us was family. As a result our awning was down a ditch all wekend and one side couldnt be pegged down. The owners spent all day evry day cycling around the pitch watching you. It felt very much like a prisOn. we were told off for parking our car next to the caravan and was told to Park it in the car park, although there was no spaces. Told off for the position of our barbecvue, then on the finaL day wouldnt let my son put the rubbish in the bin and told him to go through it and sort out any recycling-although there was no signs to say they had this facility. When i told him we wouldnt go through a bin bag he told me to take the rubbish home. Funnily enough when i later took the rubbish nothing was said, but he was making other peole do this. It is a shame as it was a lovely site, but for the life of me cannot understand why you want want to have a caravan site, if this is how you are going to be with the public. We have been caravanning for 9 years and the other 2 families we were with for over 30 and we have never had problems like this before.

We have just returned from Ladycross Plantation - we were there for a week. Maybe the warden has changed but we didnt have any problems at all. We went with family and were able to pitch our vans so our awnings were together and park next to our caravans without a problem. We had 2 girls with us, both aged 8, and they were free to play whatever games they wanted including ballgames, badminton etc. The warden and all the staff were very friendly and helpful for the whole week. Maybe people should go to Ladycross and see for themselves. We couldnt fault it and will definately be going again.

We were booked into York House at Whitby last weekend and when shown our pitch, sorry postage stamp,we only have a small 2 berth, we refused to stay and went along to cc site at low moor (no toilet block) York house was awful you could hold hands with caravan next to you and the wardens were most unhelpful. Brother in law put fridge and water heater to gas and the electric still tripped with just kettle. could not use hairdryer and no hairdryer in washroom. when asked warden what happend if electric tripped ater 9pm was told tough!!! the worst site in 18 years of caravanning.

We booked into this site for 6 nights and stayed only 1. In my opinion this site falls below standards I would expect due, in my opinion, to overcrowding of the site with tents and lack of toilet/shower facilities. The caravans on this site have poor pitches and privacy with campers driving to the toilets and parking behind the vans/leaving engines running etc.

When we decided to leave the following morning and my wife explained to the owners that the site was not really what we were looking for and requested a refund (which we did get in part) their comment was "of course you are scottish". Luckily I was not party to this racist comment otherwise I doubt we would have received any refund at all!!! Perhaps being Scottish we do not accept poor quality of amenities and sharing showers with people who use them as urinals!

We ended up staying at Low Moor CC site, whilst no facilities, other than electric hook up, ticked all the boxes as far as we are concerned. Best site we have stayed on.
