Have been having a little overheating trouble over recent times with the white plug on my caravan (a Lunar Quasar 462). The trouble all centres on the fridge earth return (terminal 7)and on one occasion melted the plastic round the pin. I have countered this problem by fairly frequently hand-testing the plug for heat, and if any is detected, spreading (again) the segments of the pin. It seems obvious that the fridge return is permanently seeking a poor earth return and taking advantage when it finds it.
I have decided to supplement this earth return, but would appreciate any views on my method before actually doing so. With the year of manufacture of my van (2004), terminal 5 (brown) is not in use, so I propose taping off the brown on my car socket and inserting a bridging link from 7 to 5 on the car, then doing likewise on my van, thereby providing two return earths..
Other than difficulties in connecting my car to an old van, which might have its terminal 5 in use, does anyone see any problems ??
