My Dad was a heating engineer in the North Home Counties, sometimes I went to work with him in the school Hol's, Graham Hill gave me £5 to help push out of the garage his car collection, and then help clean them, met Michael Crawford quite a few times, Alfie Bass (one for the teenagers!), John Gielgud, who for some reason my dad was very wary of, and his friendly man servant, friendly to me, think that was what my Dad was wary of now ! Watched old BW silent movies with Bob Monkhouse, while my Dad was working, I used to love going to work with my Dad, great times.

I've met a few but my most memorable was probably Bono. Had a long and meaningful conversation with him. He had a broad Irish accent which seems to have mellowed now.

I met Ian Smith on several occasions and even worked at his house when he was Prime Minister of Rhodesia. He defied the British government for 12 years and told the British PM Wilson to go suck eggs. Pity he is no longer around as the country woudl eb very prosperous now with lots of jobs available!

Ronnie O Sullivan at a hotel in Plymouth after a snooker championship, he joined in the Young Farmers disco and as I was the DJ he came behind the unit had a little chat and he asked for a record to dance to, (think it was something by the Jam) mind you he had a drink or two, well tipsy.

Out and about in Leominster I've see John Challis (boyce'y) and Jo Brand who both reside nearby. I'm met Monty Don when he first moved to Ivington just outside Leo, when he tried to stop us using commoners rights to use the village common, which he lived on the edge of.
I've also met "the Hamster" while testing cars at Lotus HQ. He's another famous Herefordshire resident.

In the sixties: Paul McCartney and John Lennon, Long John Baldry, Rod Stewart, Van Morrison when he was in 'Them', all the Hollies, Paul Jones singer from Manfred Mann, the Animals, Georgie Fame and various other 'famous' members of groups who I've actually met and spoken to. They all used to play at fairly small venues near us, and in those days just joined people at the bar when they weren't playing. Long John Baldry bought me my first alcoholic drink in a pub - when I was far too young to drink! Those were the days, before mega-venues where bands are miles away on a huge stage. I'm talking about places like the Troutbeck in Ilkley, where in 1967 (I think) Jimi Hendrix played one song (it's now a Nursing Home)! The Hole in the Wall in Bradford, The Boulevard in Tadcaster, The Three Coins in Leeds and the King's Hall in Ilkley where there used to be decent groups on every week. The Beatles were playing in Bradford, and my friend (a Dusty Springfield look-alike) was invited up to their room! We saw lots of other bands over a couple of years, but didn't actually get to meet all of them in person.
Jimmy Saville - he used to run past our house almost daily - and I once gave him a drink when he looked very thirsty. Geoff Capes, at the Highland Games in Ashbourne, and he shared our watermelon slices, and chatted to my mum for ages. Liam Gallagher, in Woolworths in Pwhelli, when he was staying nearby, and was in the queue behind me with an armful of beach towels! He winked at me, as I obviously recognised him! Dennis Healey in our local garden centre, twice. Alan Bennett a friend's dinner party.
