seen it all this weekend, coming back up the m6 yesterday,i was doing 70(not towing)when i was passed by a laguna pulling a caravan as though i was stood still.then further up saw, what looked like a twin wheeled hobby on its roof, but what was the worst thing about this was that it had been pulled by a ford escort, how stupid can people get,is it any wonder we vanners get a bad image.its always the odd one that spoils it for the others, but at least most vanners were driving properly,

There's one heck of a difference between following the 85% recommendation and towing a twin axle with an Escort. It's thoughtlessness like that (and towing at speeds in excess of 70mph) that creates such a hype about the 85% figure.

I know a chap who used to regularly tow a Crusader superstorm with a Citroen zx diesel, and although he always got his destination he could never understand why the roller bearings in his rear axle tube kept collapsing. This chap has been 'vanning for over 30 years and surely must know better?

I'm surprised that it doesn't seem obvious to these people just by looking at their outfit and even without checking legal limits that something is plainly wrong if the car is dwarfed by the caravan, quite apart from the fact that they will be putting their insurance coverage at risk. As I said before, it's pure thoughtlessness.

Twin axle Hobby being towed by an escort, if he was that daft he probably wouldnt bother with insurance, I have my doubts that he was the legal owner of the van in the first place.
