Does anyone know of any problems with these fires.The reason I ask is that I have just done the LPG course for CORGI registration on residential park homes and leisure accomadation vehicles and the Widney fire is specifically covered although the instructor did not know why it had its own section.Just intersted to know why.

I cannot be sure but Widney hold the largest market share of heater sales into mobile homes and Static caravans in the UK. As it is the most common make by a long way, the course may look at the Widney as the typical appliance, in much the same way that people often refer to 'Hoover' when they actually mean vacuum cleaner.
In touring caravan sales adverts the heater would be referred to as a 'Carver', again as it was the defacto manufacture for such appliances. In the UK up until 1999
Incidentally although Carver no longer manufacture touring caravan heaters, having sold that part of their business to Truma, Carver plc do own Widney, and Zig.

I would fully agree with John's assumption about Widney, the last bit about Carver owning Widney and Zig is a right eye opener though!!!! as I have no reason whatsoever to doubt John's knowledge...you live and learn?
I can say older Widney's used a smaller 50mm flue while later ones have a larger bore 80mm flue, something to watch out for then and take that little bit extra care over possible CO spillage!

Thank you ,the fire in the LPG course book is a closed flue with no draught diverter to check spillage at ,I think it is an old design as the Carver ones are room sealed with air intake underneath van.The full servicing instructions arnt in manual so if anyone has a set Id find a copy helpful.Ive been on the Widney and Carver sites and although you can download instructions they are all of the newer type.Its amazing who owns what nowadays.
