Will we be warm enough?? Do we have to have 12S socket?

Hi,

I'm collecting a new Bailey Ranger 460/4 in 3 weeks from Chipping Sodbury caravans. This is our first caravan after many years of camping/trailer tenting and one of the "luxuries" we are looking forward to is heating.

We've arranged to go away for a couple of days to a local site at the end of Feb so we can check everything works. Can anybody who has a Bailey with the warm air heating confirm that we'll be warm enough? - and is it right that there is a low setting where it can be left on at night?

Second question. I only have the 12N electric socket on my tow bar. Is the battery charged when the van is plugged into the electric on site - or will I need to charge using a charger off the van periodically if I don't get a 12S fitted?

Thanks in advance for the help. I'm doing the 1.5 day CC course before I get the new van so I could get these answers then - but I can't wait for the new toy!!

Hi, Mark. I can confirm that your heater will provide enough heat during the winter season and that it is safe to leave on during the night. A couple of provisos though, don't expect the heater to give immediate warmth, it will take time to warm the van and entering or exiting the van frequently will see the temperature drop. If it's a cold night, leave the heater on but have good ventilation through the van, not as a safety issue but as a method of keeping the condensation down.

When you are plugged into the mains, your battery will be charged by the caravan, although the battery becomes mainly redundant while on hookup as the caravan charger supplies your 12v needs.

The 12S socket would also run the fridge when travelling to,from and between sites.
