Wind out awnings

In France I have a calalog from a caravan/motorhome showroom. The catalog shows caravans with windout awnings. Are british made caravans able to haw such awnings fitted, are they strong enough at roof level to support this awning?

Yes caravans can have roll out awnings fitted, the most popular being the Fiamma roll out.

The only thing they need, which is part of the kit, are reinforcing plates fitted inside the van.

Most UK built caravans cannot support the Fiamma F45 (or Omnistor eqivalent) wind out or motorised awnings as the wall/roof joints are not strong enough.

I have seen Uk built caravans using the F45 with the roof mounting kit.

I would definitely check with your caravan manufacturer.

When I did this some time ago for a Swift the answer was a definite "no-no".

Most Uk manufacturers invalidate their water ingress warranties if an "awning in a bag" is left on the awning rail whilst travelling.

We have an Omnistor 6002 which is fitted on bars which go across the roof, no drilling through the roof. This was done to ensure that our caravan did not exceed the max. width and to still be able to use the awning rail should we require a full awning.

If your caravan has roof bars I take it that it is Continental?

If this is the case, the roof/walls are strong enough to take the roll out awning.

I take it that the awning on the side of your caravan would make it wider than 2.3 metres.

I have an British built caravan Swift Europa 620. I have enquired into Privacy Room, I think I shall go to a Caravan Show, and see things in the flesh. Thanks every one for your input.
