Any one got any info on these, if so how good are they and is it really worth buying one as I have been looking to get away from EHU. However as the Daughter likes her TV this is why I have stayed on EHU so far. Any info appreciated.

Expensive, need to be on a 20 foot pole to get clean air, can be noisy, and if the pole collapses, can be very very dangerous.

A solar panel would be smaller, quieter, possibly cheaper, and very much easier to set up.

Consider getting a second battery, which you can charge up in the car by a lead from the 12s socket when you go out for the day. There are many issues here about securing and ventilation, but unless you stay on site all day, every day, I suspect it is your best bet.

The are used a lot on narrow boats. Possibly a boat shop by a canal might be worth a visit. Sorry don't know a suitable web site.

Friends of my husbands have a yacht in Devon that had a wind turbine. When at sea it was fine, when docked in Marina's or at anchor in the summer it was often useless due to lack of wind.

The sun comes up every day and even on cloudy days the solar panels that replaced it gave better service.

We've a roof mounted panel on our caravan. We pop out the roof light to give the odd wipe down and have never had power problems since we've had it and the leisure battery has lasted much longer.

Also I would'd want to be erecting a big fan every time we pitched up on a site.

Barry,

As a former "Yatchie" I can say that the wind generators actually do work, provided of course they are not shielded from the wind!

Have a look here http://www.seateach.com/results.asp?Catu=19&Manu=%25&goButton=search it will give you an idea of the prices of each different type plus they give the specs as well

Wind generators are fine on boats, especially when they are on moorings in clear air, much less effective when the boat is in a Marina where it gets shielded. Most caravan site have trees around them so unless you can get a pitch in a reasonably open area you probabaly wont get much benefit and certainly wont get anything like the rated output. They are also heavy and not everso easy to transport because of their shape. You'd need a pole and guys to support it and you would need a controller as well. For the effort and cost involved a decent solar panel would be much more effective.

Barry,

I asked this question a few months ago and the resultant answers suggested getting a bigger solar panel. Noise was one thing against and making sure the pole was secure.

Yesterday we bought a 65W Solar panel.

Barry,

have a look at this site, www.wirefreedirect.com/rutland_wind_turbines_and_accessories.asp

Hope you've won the lottery though?

Ron
