Hi

Any suggestions please ?

Caravan front Left window has signs of cracking/crazing where the screws hold the hinge.

Is it posible to strengthen that area with a piece of very thin (say 2mm) acrylic, or is there anything that stops crazing/cracking?

Regards

Leso

We have used "Creeping Crack Cure" on plastic sinks and shower trays, it might work on windows. It is clear liquid that soaks into the cracks and seals them. We bought ours from Kleeneze some years ago so don't know if they still sell it. Good luck.

Les,

Hold on with the "Creeping Crack Cure" - CCC is meant to seal around window rubbers (and portholes - originally developed for boating) and stop water ingress.

CCC does an excellent job at sealing minute holes and gaps that you can't see, but it has no real strength or "glue" properties.

CCC is basically a very liquid and mobile version of bathroom sealant.

You should consider using a solvent glue - like "Methyl Ethyl Ketone" or another of the acrylic glues on the market. These are also very runny liquids that will seep into the smallest crack, dissolving the acrylic as they go and then bonding the surfaces together.

If the cracks are large, then you should also consider "stopping" the crack with a small drilled hole at the end of the visible crack (I have used a 1.0 mm drill or smaller to repair glider canopies) and then use a thicker acrylic glue to seal that hole

Thank you for that.

The crazing is just around the hinge mount and starting to fan out slightly in two areas.

Solvent glue might be a better option.

Thank again.

Les,

Just be aware that solvent glue does what it says - accidentally slash some on the window and you'll mark the surface of the plastic - and then you'll spend a few hours with T-Cut polishing out your mistake.

So just take care when you apply it.
