Winter ski holiday with caravan

Has anyone any experience of this? Are there caravan sites in France on the lower slopes that stay open through the ski season?

The wifes' face when I raised the possibility effectively ended any further discussion but the price of ski accommodation in school half term makes the caravan option at least worth a look!

Have a look at www.lesarcs.com and bourgsaintmaurice.com and a caravan site nearby www.leversoyen.com which may be of help. Bit of a long hike for a half term though.

Thanks for that Mike - it looks like people actually do go to ski resorts with their caravans then!

Not too far for Feb half term - we usually take an extra week to make it a fortnight as the kids are still in primary school.

Has anyone actually done it? Would appreciate any comments on using site facilities / deep snow / awnings / heating and preventing freeze ups etc. Our own experience of the alps in winter so far is that the weather is usually fairly benign at that time of year (Feb) - lots of sun during the day, occasional heavy snow and infrequent strong winds.

Haven't actually decided we'll do this yet - but need to do my research before putting the option to a sceptical wife! (but I think the kids would go for it!)
