I have recently prepared my caravan for the winter by removing the wheels and fitting winter wheels etc. One thing that bothers me is am i doing my battery harm by leaving it in the caravan hooked up all winter my caravan is at home in my driveway.

Caslau, I will also be interested in the replies to your query from the more technically minded members on this forum as I too leave mine hooked up while parked in my drive. I have read that this may not be recommended but no actual reason was given. I have left the van hooked up for probably the last six or seven winters. So far I can't say I've noticed any problems with the battery, a previous posting suggested continual hook up would shorten the battery life. Present battery is two years old, previous one was over six years old and I only changed it because I got a mover fitted and needed to move up from a 75ah battery to larger type.

Caslau and Rob-T, In regards to keeping your battery on charge, the technically minded will tell you that the on-board charger will not charge the battery to 100% where as a smart charger (CTEK3600) will initially charge the the battery to its maximum (100%) and from thereon will trickle charge when there is any voltage drop, due to natural gassing.

There are three recent threads about charging a leisure Battery under Technical,

best regards, Martin
