winter storage

Hi guys, just a bit of advice from you please,as we are new to caravaning and this will be our first winter with our van,we have the van in the garden so will we be safe leaving it plugged in to the mains so the heating is on all the time, the aqua roll is in a thermal jacket along with the pipes for the water pump so they should be ok,so al i need is your advice on leaving the heating on.many thanks.

Will you actually be using it as you say it is in storage but imply water will be connected? If not used then all water should be drained and there will not be any need to waste energy heating it. Most people put their vans on a storage site and there is no form of energy on those sites therefore why bother at home? 😉

Hi. I agree with Sir WC; unless you are living in the van in the garden, get it drained down. Leave the taps and locker doors open and pull the cushions away from the walls ( or bring them indoors) so air can circulate. If you feel the need, go in every few weeks and put the heating on for a few hours and open the windows if it is a dry day to circulate some warm air around. You don't need the heating on 24/7. It will cost you ( and the planet) a fortune.

The systems playing up as it missed half of my posting, BUT, you are almost correct, its St Andews Day. Cheers Tam.

I tend to unplug from the mains, hook up to the car and tow to a site near a pub and pitch up again.

I'm with you on that one! I'm fortunate in that I park the van at home, so on those rare(ish) occasions when its not in use I plug in the leccy and leave a small 650 watt oil filled radiator on 24/7.
As we only have a tiny wee cottage, the van doubles as our spare bedroom, so if unexpected guests appear ( aren't they the best sort?) it is always ready for use. Son and daughter-in-law seem to use it most, as when they come for dinner my whisky bottles seem to leak and his legs get all knotted up! I help a bit too, sometimes. 😉
