Winterhoff Hitch...which towball???

Hi all,

Our latest caravan (Elddis Avante 556) has a blue coloured Winterhoff Hitch.

My Land Rover still has a standard type towball that we used on our (very) old caravan.

Am I right in thinking there is a different type of towball needed for my new hitch? If so, what type do I need?

I have towed with my current towball without any fuss, except one snake on motorway at 60mph when 'van was empty (which surprised me 'cos I tow with a 2tonne+ Land Rover Discovery TD5!)

All advice gratefully received,

Many thanks

Jason

Unlike the Alko, the Winterhoff does not need a special tow ball, just a clean standard one.
By clean, I mean bare metal, no grease.

If your towball had grease on it, you will have contaminated the friction pads in the Winterhoff which could explain the snake, but with an empty van it was probably due to low nose weight.

If the friction pads are contaminated, try using plenty of Halfords brake cleaner on them and the towball.

Perhaps the van had very little nose weight being empty?
