Does anyone know if it is worth buying a 'Pay As You Go' internet dongle for using on site. We enquired about buying a PAYG Vodafone one but were told by the assistant that we wouldn't get coverage outside the cities.

This months Practical Caravan magazine gives the impression that they work in most places, although they may be slow.

We only want it for very infrequent use, such as checking out attractions in Cornwall during our week away, to get mileages, postcodes etc.

I can get a mobile phone signal on most sites (although I am on Orange) in the South West or West Wales, so I am confused.

I would also recommend the Vodafone dongle. Works really well in my new netbook, and unlike the other providers the money doesn't run out after 30 days. I might not get away in the van from one month to the next so if it expired after 30 days I'd be constantly paying and not getting anything.

I paid

I have been using a Vodafone PAYT dongle for the past four months and only found one place couldn't use it, but couldn't get mobile coverage either!

The rule of thumb is that if you can get mobile phone coverage your dongle will work, it will also slected the best service available whether GPRS or 3G/Broadband (GPRS is slower but still works)

I dont know much about these so any help would be appreciated, we are going to the Forest of Dean next week and the only mobile network that you can get a signal with is Orange. Would the 3 dongle work, and how long does the

If there is no 3 phone signal then the dongle cannot work. You can check coverage on their website. And even if there are phone signals, the corresponding dongles may not work as I think they need a better signal than a phone.

The boss used one last month and I thought it was all rather expensive. I didn't like the 30day time limitation whether she used it or not.

In certain parts of the UK eg Highlands and Islands of Scotland we are told it is unlikely to work.

I'm hoping more and more non CC sites will allow usage of wireless connection at sensible prices not those charged by the contractors at CC sites.

Cheers

The Vodaphone dongle is, I think, the only one where the airtume you pay for doesn't ex[ire after one month. It lasts until you use it all.

As for the Caravan Club wireless broadband rates - they are ridiculously expensive and I'd be very surprised if many people pay their high charges. If their broadband is farmed out to an outside company, it's no wonder they are priced so high with everyone getting their cut.

The Vodafone dongle lasts 180 days if you don't top up, then it expires(or so the small print says that came with mine). You must use a

Sorry but I must disagree. When I bought my Top up and Go Vodafone dongle the salesperson said it lasted 180 days if you don't top up.Page 6 of the booklet entitled "TopUp and Go Mobile Broadband" under para "What if I don't use my modem for a while" states "If you donot use your broadband for a set period of 180 days of topping up unfortunately your credit will expire and your broadband will be disconnected." I'd be happy to be proven wrong. Where does it say there there is no time limit.

We used Vodafone PAYG dongle at Plymouth, St Agnes & Trewethett Farm CC sites - no problems. Hubby uses it for work : 3 days use over 9+ hours/day, less than 3 quid (no music/video downloads). Beauty of Vodafone deal is no time limit, no minimum daily charge.

Ordered via Quidco website - got 10 quid cashback off 39 quid dongle (1GB). Why pay site prices ?
