Does anyone know the best for usage in France?
If you using a UK mobile companies dongle I don't think, if you check on the cost first, that the coverage is going to continue to interest you!

They are generally stonkingly expensive from my brief looking into it.

Fao Graham.

It's not quite that perfect giving a phone shop the post code and them getting the info correct.

I'm online now with a t-mobile dongle on payg in an area of Herefordshire that according to T-mobile has no signal capability, but some how or other, we get a very good reception.

At least on payg you can use a couple of networks to get coverage. That way you only pay if you can play. A bit naughty I know, but you'd be suprised how many households don't security protect their broad band systems. Over Jan & feb we were at a site with free wifi. But what we also found was that in range was 3 unsecured home broadband signals that we could of easily used.

So a timely warning to those at home. secure your broadband as if a criminal logs onto your system they might well get more than a free surf on tinternet. We do not surf piggyback ourselves.

There might be some problems getting a PAYGO sim in France. I thought you had to have an address in france but could be wrong. Also I am not sure if you can use GPRS on a french sim.

See http://www.0044.co.uk/france.htm

This is for an orange sim but I don't know if all providers are the same.

I use a UK orange phone connected to a laptop and I firstly check for emails on the phone but only download the headers. Then you can delete the rubbish from the server again on the phone. You must also set the phone to leave the messages on the server.

Any new emails I write on the PC offline and then connect to the phone and send and download. You only pay for the amount of data not the time spent on line. Another piece of advice is to disable ALL auto updates on the PC. Windows, Anti-virus and firewall etc. Only use I.E or Thunderbird. DO NOT USE WEB MAIL.

If you want to use the web then go to the nearest McDonalds for a revolting cup of coffee (or sit outside in the car!) and use their free WiFi. Search around and you'll often find an unsecured network. Just borrow it for a while not exactly erm.. legal.

French PAYGo sims have an expiry date.

I think it's use it or lose it by the end of the month and don't top-up and they will switch it off after a while.
